If you are spending most of your time at home in front of your computer, it's time to shake up your routine. Applying online is by far the easiest way to apply for jobs - but it's NOT the most effective. When you’re in a job search for more than six months -your daily routine is set on automatic pilot. This week, spend 75% of your time networking, setting up informational interviews and marketing yourself directly to hiring authorities. Rather than sending emails, pick up the phone and have conversations. Leave a voicemail that shows your target how it will benefit them to call you back. Get out of your house and force yourself to interact with people who are working. You NEVER know who can open a door that results in your next job opportunity.

Get Back Out There
When you are knocked down, the most natural thing to do is get back up! The same holds true for the disappointments you experience throughout your job search process. When you get knocked down or even knocked out of the interviewing process, you need to get back out there!
How you respond to setbacks and failures is one of the most important decisions you make each day. Successful people fail more because they try more. Job Seekers who are doing nothing have no setbacks or disappointments, but they also have no chance of finding a job! It's always a better choice to fail at doing something than to excel at doing nothing!
All job seekers get knocked down and rejected, but it is how fast they get up that counts. The only time you fail is when you have not learned anything from the experience. There is always an opportunity to learn from every failure, rejection or disappointment. In your job search adopt the following attitude: SO WHAT -NOW WHAT - NEXT!
Someone else's opinion of you does not have to be your reality! When you don't get hired for a position, that does not mean you are not talented or qualified, it merely means you were not a fit for this particular opportunity. If another job seeker is more successful in their job search, chances are they have heard "No" more than you. Each "No" gets you closer to someone saying YES.
If you find yourself lacking motivation and your job search is in neutral, the best advice I can give you is "GET BACK OUT THERE TODAY!" Your next employer is sitting there, waiting to hear from you.

Important Announcement
While you’re watching, listening to and reading the news, it is important to remember that "good news" does not sell advertising. If you have been following the news in the past thirty days, you might believe NO ONE is hiring. That is NOT TRUE! We’ve surveyed companies from coast to coast and many ARE hiring. All you have to do is review the Job Boards or postings on websites to see for yourself that employers are hiring. However, the best way for you to find a job is still networking and marketing yourself directly to hiring authorities. Make a commitment today to spend the time you normally spend following the NEWS researching companies and the names of hiring authorities. This is much better use of your time. Many job seekers have thrown up their hands and are not aggressively pursuing a job because of! recent news. That is why timing is perfect for you...you probably have less competition!

Depression WILL Sabotage Your Job Search
During our last Job Seeker Training Webinar, our Career Coach realized that many of the job seekers participating on the live call had been out of work for extended periods of time. It's easy to get frustrated, depressed and worried if you're EVER going to land a job! No matter what has transpired in your job search up until now - you need to declare today as the beginning of "phase two" of your search.
If possible, attempt to land contract, temp or consulting work to show some recent experience. If that is not possible, volunteer your time with organizations that will give you the opportunity to interact with business people (who are often hiring authorities) You can list the volunteerism as recent activity. If you don't think you will ever land a job, you will spend your entire day proving yourself right. It's important that your begin to expect good things to happen in your job search. Schedule more informational interviews. Re-contact your business network and let them know you are a "free agent in the open job market and are excited about accepting a new challenge".
The BEST WAY for you to find a job is NOT Job Boards or postings on websites (there is too much competition). You need to market yourself to individuals who would be your bosses's boss and stress your career accomplishments and the impact they have had on your past employers. Stress the BENEFIT TO THEM when you are attempting to schedule an interview! Smile when you make your follow up telephone calls and you will come across more positive on the phone. Don't allow yourself the luxury of being depressed - even for a minute because it WILL sabotage your job search.

America’s Got Talent
On the popular TV show, America's Got Talent, the contestants experience something similar to that of what job seekers experience during their job search. Thousands of people think they should WIN the competition but only a few even make it through the initial auditions. Even those who end up in the final 48 can be "out" following one bad performance. At the end of each act they are critiqued by three judges who are blunt and often critical of their performance. Only the GREAT acts actually make the finals and there is only one WINNER.
Your job search is also a competition. You can be screened out at any point in the interviewing process. Often, your resume causes you to be screened out even before you have a chance to interview. Each step in the process brings you closer to a job offer or eliminates you from contention.
- Do you prepare better than your competition?
- Have you signed up for a FREE resume review so our experts can guide you?
- Have you taken the new color assessment tools we just added to our Career Portal that provide tremendous insight into what jobs fit you best?
- Do you differentiate yourself from your competition?
If you answered "no" to any of these questions, login and begin to stand out from your competition : URL: www.thrpartnerscareercenter.com
You can't keep conducting your job search the SAME WAY and expect DIFFERENT RESULTS. As your job search progresses, you have to improve and show why YOU are the best person for the opportunity.
Review your current level of success and make changes necessary so you're the "talent" that is hired!

FRUSTRATED BY NO FEEDBACK FROM RECRUITERS OR HIRING AUTHORITIES?
It can be very frustrating when you receive no feedback after you submit your resume or are interviewed. Delays can be due to the following:
- No decision has been reached
- They had too many responses to have time to give feedback to everyone
- They do not enjoy giving bad news
- They do not want to hear job seekers get defensive when they are screened out
- Sometimes they don’t KNOW why you were screened out
If you do not hear from them, don’t burn this bridge. In 90 days you want to re-contact every person who has interviewed you (</X{(}>Not through a Recruiter). Often the following occurs:
- The person they hired accepted a counter-offer
- The person they hired is NOT working out
- They have other positions open that match your credentials
People hire the individuals who they feel will provide them with the fastest return on their investment and who they like. You just need to get in front of hiring authorities as often as possible until that job offer is extended to YOU!
MUST READ
One of the most effective ways to find a job is to market yourself directly to hiring authorities. This provides you with the lowest level of competition and the greatest chance for success. Summer Networking
Summer is a great time to attend functions that are free. This may include parades, picnics, firework displays and other outside activities. The worst thing you could do right now is throw your hands up and stay at home because you are upset that you don't have a job. You never know who you might meet. You never know who could open a door for you to a hiring authority. It's important to keep your spirits up which often occurs when you get out of the house and interact with people. It's also important to come across POSITIVE, not negative or depressed. You will obtain more referrals if someone feels you present yourself well. For those of you in the US, the three day July 4th Holiday is the perfect time to get out and NETWORK. You might even want to volunteer to work on a parade or at a festival in order to force yourself to mingle with others. Your next employer could be sitting right next to you at one of these events.
MUST READ
It is important to read the articles that are posted within the 16 Step Process for finding employment. Login to our Career Portal and click on one of the following THREE PHASES of a Job Search: PREPARE - SEARCH & CONNECT - INTERVIEW.
Identify where you are in your job search process and then proceed to the appropriate step in the 16 step process. If you don't want to watch the Webinars, you may simply read the handout. If your job search is stalled or not resulting in interviews, you may need to declare your current search "dead" and start at the beginning of the 16 step process. The information found in the 16 step process has already helped thousands of job seekers and it will help you too!

TIP FOR THE WEEK
It is now the end of the second quarter of 2011. This is the perfect time to re-contact everyone you had a phone or face-to-face interview with in the first quarter of this year i.e January - March. (Unless those interview were scheduled through us. We work on your behalf and would always let you know if something was available for you.) Often the person they hired did not work out or they may have additional positions available. These are also great people to target for informational interviews. It's amazing how many job seekers get hired the second time around!

Follow Up Is Critical
There are numerous times throughout your job search that provide opportunities for you to follow up. Think for a moment about the calls you return, the email messages you read or the mail you open. That will help you know WHAT to message to leave and what email or mail to send.
CALLS THAT WILL BE RETURNED
If your follow up call is asking for a "status report" or an "update", chances are you will not receive a returned call. Often hiring authorities have NOT reached a decision and have no time to provide updates to everyone they have interviewed. However, if you call and OFFER MORE INFORMATION, you may greatly enhance your chances of being called back. You need to show the hiring authority the BENEFIT they will enjoy by calling you. Make sure you leave the phone number you will answer - more than likely your cell phone number.
EMAIL MESSAGES THAT WILL BE READ
The subject line is the most important part of your email. Choose a subject line that shows the individual receiving the email why it benefits them to open your email. You don’t have to limit a subject line to two or three words. Think of a subject line that you would open and use that!
MAIL THAT WILL BE OPENED AND READ
Sending your follow up by mail dramatically increases the chances of your mail being read. Hand write the envelope and write "Personal & Confidential" in the lower left hand corner of the envelope. This decreases the chances of a secretary or assistant opening the envelope and sending your information to the HR Department. Make sure you have the correct name and spelling of the person you are addressing as well as their title. Remember, anything you send in writing is forming their opinion of your written communication skills.
Now might be a good time for you to follow up with the hiring authorities who have interviewed you since the first of the year not through an agency of course. They may have a new position available that could utilize your credentials. Too often, your credentials can get lost in their database even if you were the back-up person from their last hire. A strong follow up process will separate you from other job seekers and help you find a job!

Network This Holiday Weekend
Use the upcoming holiday to network! When you are not working it’s easy to stay at home and not want to join family and friends at picnics or events. However, you should attend anything and everything this weekend.
Make sure you take your resume cards with you. You never know who you might run into who could open a door for you! Think of all the people who don’t even know you are still in a job search. Every single person who is currently working should be part of your network. Set a goal of adding 10 new people to your network before Tuesday!

It is important to sound like an "insider" during your job search. One of the easiest ways to accomplish that is to read the Trade Publications that represent the job or industry you are targeting. We offer many of them free in our Career Portal for six months.

What Is Your Personal Brand?
Your goal every day when you are looking for a job has to be focused on scheduling interviews. If you don’t date, you don’t get married. If you don’t interview, you won’t get a job offer! Your activity may include a combination of informational interviews as well as job interviews.
It is easier to schedule interviews when you separate yourself from other job seekers. The best way to do that is to develop your personal brand. Answer the question: Why should someone hire you over someone else with similar experience?
You can’t expect a hiring authority to figure it out, you need to differentiate yourself with every contact.
Use your personal brand in your cover letters, phone calls and interviews. You want to be memorable and not blend in with the other individuals being interviewed.

Networking is the #1 Way to Find a Job
Over 50% of job seekers credit "networking" for their success in finding a job. When someone refers you to a hiring authority, there is an inferred level of trust. You are often referred to someone who is not actively interviewing, so there is NOT a stack of resumes on their desk.
You never know WHO someone knows. You need to network with everyone you know who is currently working. They may not be working in your field of interest but that doesn’t mean they don’t know someone in your targeted area of interest.
When you are involved in an active job search, you should be adding at least one person to your professional network daily. Make sure you bring in your mail, grocery shop and complete other routine tasks when you have the best chance of running into people who are employed.
If you have not ordered our FREE Resume Cards (which are a mini resume with your contact information), visit the URL below to view a sample Resume Card or to order:

You may not always carry around your resume, but it’s simple to always have these cards on you to pass out.
Update the members of your network at least every 90 days and make sure to thank anyone who has providing you with advice or leads.
When you are in a Job Search you want to use ALL resources available and networking is the most effective!

Tip For The Week
Take time today to re-connect this week with every company that either conducted an informational, telephone or face-to-face interview with you over the past six months. Please do not reach out to the companies that you interviewed with through a Recruiter as we are the connection between you and those companies and they expect to hear from us on your behalf.
The person they hired may not be working out or they could have accepted a counter offer from their past employer. So often companies have similar positions available but don’t review individuals who applied for other positions with their company. A phone call can often result in additional interviews and even a job offer.
Form lifelong relationships with everyone you contact throughout your job search. Invite these individuals to your professional network and also offer them referrals or information that they would appreciate. These contacts are valuable throughout your entire career, not just your current job search.

Master a Strong 30 Second Pitch
Your 30 second pitch will be used in your cover letters and when you are networking. It will also prepare you to answer the dreaded question "Tell me about yourself."
You need to write down more than one - keeping in mind the following:
- Who you are addressing?
- What is important to this person?
- Who your competitors are?
- What do you offer that others do not?
You are not trying to tell your life story. You are stressing the benefits you can offer this person, while including a call to action.
If you are currently in a job search, not working and attending a networking event, an appropriate 30 second pitch would be: "I’m a free agent in the job market and bring ten years of top performance sales skills to the table. If you know anyone interested in networking with a high achiever, I would certainly appreciate a referral. Here is my resume card."

Three Steps to Help You Schedule More Interviews
Your main focus as a job seeker is to schedule interviews. If you want to land more interviews, it’s important that you differentiate yourself from other job seekers.
The following are THREE critical steps to help you differentiate yourself from your competition:
Step One: CUSTOMIZE
This applies to both your resume as well as job applications either online or printed copy. It is important that your resume and the answers you provide on their application form highlight your experience and skills to match their job requirements.
Step Two: BE CONTEMPORARY
You need to show that you are aware of current trends in your prospective profession and have knowledge of trends in the current Job Market. You need to have a basic understanding and usage of social media. Social Media is now a critical part of our culture and certainly a part of the culture of recruiters and hiring authorities. Set up a LinkedIn and Twitter account.
Twitter is a great feed for jobs. Check www.tweetmyjobs.com as an example. Once a week, send a tweet with a link to a good article or blog you have seen related either to your job search area of something you feel might be of interest to recruiters or hiring authorities in your profession.
Step Three: SHOW ENTHUSIASM AND ENERGY
Employers react to individuals who show a high level of enthusiasm and interest in working for them and their company. In your cover letter and resume you want to express a high level of intellectual, mental and emotional energy. This will help you BRAND yourself and stand out to recruiters or hiring authorities reviewing your credentials.
Implement these three steps and you will land more interviews which will lead to job offers.
Upcoming Free Job Seeker Training Webinars:

- Identify future trends that will impact your career into the future
- Learn why survival often mandates a career step back

Many hiring authorities ask you to submit your resume online, which of course you should do.
In addition, submit a hard copy of your resume through direct mail to the individual who would be your boss’s boss. Let them know you have also applied online but didn’t want to get lost in the hundreds of resumes they might be receiving.
When you mail your resume to a hiring authority, hand write the envelope and write the words "Personal & Confidential" in the bottom left-hand corner to make sure only the hiring authority opens your correspondence.

HOT TOPIC
If you are not employed, your full time job IS your job search. In our Job Seeker webinar this week, one of the participants said that he didn’t want his job search to "consume" his day - but that is exactly what you need to do. If you are not working, you should be spending at least 35 hours a week working on your job search. This includes submitting resumes, identifying targets where you can send your resume directly to the person who would be your bosses boss, follow up calls on past activity and networking efforts.
Declare today as the first day of the Second Phase of your job search. Don’t let your disappointments from the past affect your actions going forward. You can't walk forward and backward at the same time! If you keep focusing on what has happen in the past, you can't progress your search forward.
Make a commitment today to a certain level of results daily. This should include: How many resumes you will submit, how many phone calls you will make, how many people you will add to your network, how many interviews you will schedule and how much research you will conduct.
The economy is improving, the job market is improving and it’s time for your job search to "consume your day"!
MUST READS
The people in your network and possibly hiring authorities must actually take the time to read your resume in order for you to schedule interviews. Your resume is your ticket to the interview whether it is an informational or job interview.
If you are not scheduling interviews, it could be your resume. Remember we are willing to review your resume once for FREE and tell you exactly what changes you have to make to improve your results.

Informational interviews can lead to job interviews. The Job Seeker Webinar that took place this week titled "The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Informational Interviews" addressed the importance of informational interviews. If you did not have a chance to participate, visit our career portal early next week once we have posted the recorded webinar and handouts, and follow the advice shared.
If you have not been successful in landing interviews, the informational interview can help you obtain referrals and often turn into job interviews. Informational interviews should be an important element in your search process.

TIP FOR THE WEEK
It is important for you to review your job search every Friday afternoon. Review what you have done to progress your job search and then ask yourself three questions:
- What am I doing RIGHT? The 20% of your actions that provide you with 80% of your results (Commit to doing more of those actions)
- What is wasting my time? (Stop doing those things immediately)
- What new idea can I implement to improve my chances at finding a job?
(You can’t do things the same way and expect different results. Many NEW IDEAS are shared during our free Weekly Job Seeker Webinars that we provide for you. If you cannot attend, listen to the recordings of these Webinars that are located in our Career Portal Library. The various materials shared work in TODAY’S Job Market)

The job market is beginning to change, the economy is changing and it is time for you to change the way you are conducting your search process. It’s still not easy to find a job, but more employers are hiring and it is the job seeker who puts momentum in their search that will be hired.
Contact all the companies who have interviewed you in the past several months (Not through a Search Firm, of course). They may have additional opportunities available. Send your resume and cover letter directly to hiring authorities in your targeted companies. Update your professional profile on your Social Media sites and join discussion and networking groups.
Every day focus on how you can get yourself in front of a hiring authority. Now is the time to commit to spending at least 35 hours a week on your search if you are not employed and 10 hours a week if you are employed.
MUST READS
When is the last time you adjusted or revised your cover letter. If you are not scheduling interviews it could be your cover letter. This week we’re going to discuss how to write a cover letter when you are aware of a specific opportunity.
Express your confidence in performing the tasks of the job and your high level of interest. You then take the requirements of the job and list them on the left hand side of your cover letter and then list the credentials you possess that match their needs on the right hand side. End your cover letter with an exact timeframe for your follow up call.
Read your cover letter today and consider the following...If you were the hiring authority reading your cover letter, would you set up the interview with you? If you answered no, it’s time to read your cover letters and make adjustments to improve your chances of landing interviews.

TIP FOR THE WEEK
Your expectations and attitude have a tremendous impact on your ability to conduct a successful job search. If you are negative and stressed out, you are actually hurting your chances of finding your next job. I hear job seekers often say "if I just had a job I’d be happy". Unfortunately, hiring authorities want to hire individuals who ARE happy and possess a positive attitude.
I’d like to share a quote with you from Denis Waitley "Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." Do your best each day to focus on what is good or right in your life. It will help you maintain the attitude and demeanor that are most desired by your future employer!

The Only Way to Improve Your Interviewing Skills is by Role Playing
There are many reasons why role playing may not be something you can accomplish:
- You don’t know anyone who can role play with you
- You are currently employed and don’t want people to know you are in a search
- You find it too embarrassing to get comfortable with the process
- You don’t want to be judged by someone who is not a hiring authority
When you listen to yourself, you can pick out your strengths and weaknesses as you critique the recording. Listen to the recording as if you are a hiring authority and rate yourself on a scale of 1 - 10. Continue this process until you are scoring a 9 or 10 in most areas.
Once you become comfortable recording your interview, you then need to role play with family, friends, neighbors, individuals in Job Clubs or anyone else who is willing to role play with you. It’s important to realize that if you are NOT comfortable role playing, you are probably NOT comfortable with interviewing. You can delay the live role playing with another person, but you really can’t avoid it.
The most qualified person does not necessarily get hired, it’s the person who interviews the best. When you think of how difficult it is to schedule interviews, you want to be at your best during the interview process.
Hiring authorities react to your ability to:
- Make a great first impression
- Answer questions effectively
- Show your personality
- Overcome objections
- Stand out from other job seekers
- Ask the best questions
- Have the interviewer "envision" you in the position
- Show your confidence level and interest in the position
- Close strong
- Set up the follow-up process
Remember to register for the upcoming Free Job Seeker Training Webinars:
